What is the knife you carry? If you are a Tactical Knife Instructor like myself, then you know where to find the best. Being apart of the Special Operations community, you learn who and what everyone carries. Their was one knife maker that several people in the community carried. His knives were legendary within the community and his name is Winkler. Daniel Winkler makes knives not just for everyone, but the Special Operations community. He has tons of selections on his website and despite the price, it’s all hand made with love. He began making knives in 1975 and became a fulltime bladesmith in 1988. He earned accreditation as a Master Bladesmith from the American Bladesmith Society in 1993. As a historical enactor, he drew inspiration from the knives and axes of the American Frontier- a time when the tools a man carried meant sustenance and survival. That influence translated to a recognizable style that brought Winkler and his sheath-making partner Karen Shook widespread
fame. That same influence remains evident in the tools created by Winkler Knives today.
The knife you see here is the Belt Knife! The belt knife is exactly the knife for the belt. It is a fixed knife that is small enough to wear it lengthwise or horizonal. It can withstand the toughest beating you can give it. We go through the toughest terrain and training evaluations that the normal knife could not handle. I have used this Belt knife for everything. I mean cutting rope or any kind of cloths. Dug holes for mines, traps, cooking and etc. I have also pried doors and windows open and even hammered with it! One tough SOB. Well let’s not forget fighting with it too.
First impression of the Belt knife is also my last too. Meaning I will never own another knife unless Daniel Winkler has made it. The Belt knife is Winkler Knives’ most popular design. It is perfectly balanced, the size and shape lend well to most all applications. It is an ideal tool for outdoor enthusiasts and tactical operators, as well.
