This is a great review on the SOG – STRAT OPS AUTOMATIC, as well as the technique using the knife!  Great Job and a Must Read!!

When you are a knife fighter like myself, the one thing you look for (if it is a folding one)in a knife, is how fast can you get it to deploy? The one thing most important to me in a fighting knife is, that it must be a well-made knife.  SOG takes pride in the work they put into their knives and that’s why they have been in business for so long.  With that being said, I need the handle to take a lot of abuse, wear and cannot fold in half during a thrusting movement.  Plus the feel of the handle must fit in the palm of the hand.

I was handed the Strat OPS Automatic knife to try it out and see if it can hold up to not only military standards but a Tactical Knife fighter as well! So let’s begin this T&E –

I was carrying the Strat OPS Automatic in my right front pocket as I casually walk down the street one day.  When a man walks right past me and I noticed something in his right hand but paid no attention to it.  I then hear the guy yell at me from behind and tells me to turn around and give him all my money.  Now I noticed that (something) in his hand was a 12 inch fixed bladed knife.

As I  quickly turned around and stepping back with my right foot.  I pulled out the Strat OPS Automatic from my pocket and hit the button so the knife could open.  Before I knew it, this guy reaches for my shoulder to grab as he tries to jab the knife into my stomach.

I allowed the guy to grab my shoulder (allowing him to grab the should, puts his left hand in check and out of the way).  He then pushes forward his right arm bringing the knife into my stomach area.

I  redirect his attacking hand with an inward parry.  Allowing his motion to still continue forward and off to my right side.  As I push his strike to the side, I allow my right hand holding the knife to cross over the top of his forearm to the left side with my new Strat OPS Automatic.  I made a scissor motion cutting the top of his arm

I continue my arm motion until I was completely through his forearm.  I then made a quick motion with my right foot.  A right “C” step forward and around his right leg bringing my motion back into his body sticking him with the blade of my knife in the kidney.  This would pretty much stop his action to fight.

The only way to see this attack is to watch it in fast motion to get an idea of it.  In the video, we will be using training knives for safety.  Watch the video:

How did you like the video?  Pretty easy movements for the technique.  I felt the knife was quick to open and felt smooth while I was performing the technique.  I did not feel like the knife would come loose from my hand.  So, let’s check on what SOG has to say about this cool knife.

Based around superior CPM S35VN steel, SOG’s USA produced knives offer improved toughness, better edge retention, higher resistance to wear and edge chipping while maintaining ease of sharpening. The Strat Ops is a USA-made fully-equipped, heavy-duty folder with an automatic CPM S35VN blade with a black Cerakote coating housed in a linen Micarta handle with stainless steel liners. Despite a 3.5-inch blade, it is relatively lightweight at 3.7 oz and slim. It is quick to open and durable. With the push of a button, the blade opens quickly and locks up with a secure click of the lock. The linen Micarta handle offers superior grip in wet or dry conditions and looks better the more it is used. Combining all these features with a thin profile and a reversible low-carry pocket clip make it a perfect choice for your carry. For questions on legality, consult your local, county, & state laws.

The first 500 Strat Ops knives are uniquely engraved with STRAT OPS and comes with an individually numbered certificate of production.
