I’ve been promoting Aimpoint’s new 6x magnifier for a while now as a worthwhile optic selection when the tactical equation includes CQB or Urban warfare. Having said that, I’ve also known for years that I prefer this type of setup when operating in the AOs listed above. While I’ve trained thousands of hours with a similar setup in the past, I wanted to really know just how easy the magnifier was to employ.
So, how easy is it to engage targets at varying distances with the new Aimpoint 6XMAG-1? That’s a great question with a simple answer. It’s too easy! It’s so easy, a novice shooter can score first round hits on silhouette targets at varying distances out to 220 yards. Recently, I’ve been working with a local actor in NM who reached out to me for additional firearms training. So, I took him to the range and gave him the opportunity to shoot my rifle with the 6XMAG-1.
We started with a stationary position, but by the end, he was engaging the targets while on the move. The targets varied in ranges with close targets at 20 yards and then distance targets at 220 yards. The far targets were engaged with the magnifier from a kneeling position. As you can see below, he flawlessly engaged these targets with the utmost finesse.
All three magnifiers offered by Aimpoint increase the capability for operators that still prefer utilizing simple red dot sights for anticipated CQB. Red dots are simple to use, rugged and ideal for quick shots after entering multiple rooms within a building or structure. They allow users to quickly identify targets and engage them while still allowing a wide field of view. These magnifiers increases target identification capabilities and allows the user to engage targets out to medium distances with the flip of the wrist.

The Aimpoint® 6XMag-1 was specifically designed for use with Aimpoint® Micro T-2 and Aimpoint® Micro H-2 red dot sights. This module gives professional users enhanced capability for long-range aiming and observation. A variable (-3 to +3) dioptric setting allows the magnifier to be adapted to the individual operator’s eye.
The 6XMag-1 can also be used as a handheld 6X monocular. Aimpoint magnifiers utilize the red dot in Aimpoint sights as the aiming reticle, eliminating the need for re-zeroing when shifting between non-magnified and magnified aiming.
The 6XMag-1 is encased in a shock absorbing protective rubber cover that also creates an ideal ergonomic grip. Internal optical adjustments make aligning the magnifier and sight quick and easy.
